ATTITUDE TOWARDS STRESS OF DIABETIC PATIENTS

AbstractThe study was conducted to investigate attitude towards stress on diabetic patients considering their gender and socio-economic status. The main objective of the study was to study the attitude towards stress of diabetic patients as related to measure a link of stress attitude in six dimension like psychological, situational, physiological, financial, environmental, and surgical sectors. It also designed to explore an empirical data for penetrating into gender and socio-economic states on attitude towards stress of diabetic patients. Accordingly, two specific hypotheses were formulated. The first hypothesis stated that female diabetic patients would express higher stress attitudes as compared to male diabetic patients. And the second hypothesis expressed that lower socio-economic individual with diabetes would express higher stress attitudes than middle and upper socio-economic individual. For this study 208 samples were selected purposively. The samples were drawn from different hospitals and health institution of Rajshahi, Khulna, Jassore, and Nilphamari districts in Bangladesh.
To conduct the study two types of scales were used. Attitude Towards Stress Scale developed by Rahman and Ara (2005), and Socio-economic Status Scale developed by Ahmed et al., (2017) were used to measure the stress attitudes and socio-economic level respectively. A 2×3 factorial design involving two levels of gender (male/ female) and three levels of socio-economic status (upper/middle/lower) were used to conduct the study. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for the computation of data after the normality test of the data to determine whether the obtained data was normally distributed or not in both scales. The result showed that females expressed significantly higher stress as compared to male diabetic patients. Again, result revealed that lower socio-economic individuals expressed significantly higher stress attitude as compared to middle and upper socio-economic diabetic individuals. Finally, result exposed that there was a significant interaction effect of gender and socio-economic status on the stress attitudes of the diabetic patients.
