ATTITUDES OF NURSING AND OTHER HEALTHCARE STUDENTS TOWARD AGEING

AbstractThe reported study attempted to investigate the attitudes of nursing and other healthcare students toward ageing of Rajshahi metropolitan area. The sample of the study was comprised of 400 (200 nursing students and 200 other healthcare students) respondents selected from ten educational institutions (5 nursing and 5 other healthcare institutions) of Rajshahi metropolitan areas. To measure attitudes toward ageing of the respondents an adapted Bangla version (Islam & Khan, 2001) of the Ageism Scale developed by Derek Pigram (1987) was administered. Collected data were analyzed by employing t-test through IBM SPSS (version-20.0). Results revealed that, attitudes of nursing and other healthcare students toward ageing are significantly negative as compared to the neutral value of the scale. Comparisons were also made based on the nature of institutions and sex differences. Significant difference was found between nursing and other healthcare students in terms of their level of negative attitudes toward ageing. Results also revealed that, attitudes toward ageing of male students are significantly more negative than female students.
