AVIAN DIVERSITY OF THE SHOIPARA BEEL OF MOHANPUR UPAZILLA, RAJSHAHI, BANGLADESH

AbstractAn investigation was carried out to enlist the avian diversity of Shoipara beel under Mohanpur upazilla, Rajshahi district of Bangladesh. Data were collected from February 2015 to January 2016. During the study period 96 avian species belonging to 72 genera, 34 families under 11 orders were recorded of which 59 (61.46%) were non-passerines and 37 (38.54%) passerines. Thirty (31.25%) of 96 species were migratory of which 21 (21.88%) species were common winter visitors, 5 (5.21%) were uncommon winter visitors, 4 (4.17%) species were common summer visitors. The rest 66 (68.75%) were resident that comprised 60 (62.50%) common, 4 (4.17%) uncommon and 2 (2.08%) rare. The feeding guild of birds and diversity index were calculated.
