EFFECT OF FAMILY TYPE AND GENDER ON LOCUS OF CONTROL AND MARITAL ADJUSTMENT OF URBAN PEOPLE

AbstractThe purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of family type and gender on locus of control and marital adjustment of urban people. In order to collect data 100 couples were selected purposively in Chittagong City. An adapted Bangla version of Duttwiller’s Internal Control Index and adapted Bangla version of Spanier’s Dyadic, Adjustment Scale of marital adjustment, were used as measuring instruments in this study. The results of the study were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and F- test. Results revealed that gender and family type had no significant main effect on locus of control. But a significant interaction was found between gender and family type. On the other hand, family type had a significant effect on marital adjustment, i. e. nuclear family couple’s marital adjustment is better than joint family couples
