EFFECT OF TOPICAL APPLICATION OF DIASULIN® 30/70 ON SOME COMMERCIAL CHARACTERS OF SILKWORM, BOMBYX MORIL.

Abstract

The effect of insulin “Diasulin®30/70″was tested against III, IV and Vth instar larvae of silkwonn, Bombymori commercial crossbreed race-Urbashi for improving the performance of growth, cocoon and egg characteristics. In the present investigation Diasulin®30/70 was used in 4 concentrations (20 ml/0.5 liter water (LW), 10 ml/0.5 liter water (LW), 5 ml/0.5 liter water (LW) and 2.50 ml/0.5 liter water) dissolved in distilled water. Ten micro liters of each selected concentrations of Diasulin®30/70 were topically applied to individual larvae of silkwonn once a day.The larval weight, cocoon and egg characteristics were influenced by various concentrations of Diasulin® 30/70. Among the different concentrations 5 ml/0.5 LW concentration ofDiasulin®30/70 was highly effective against the mean larval weight, cocoon weight, shell weight, pupal weight, silkgland weight, total number of eggs and hatching percentage over the control. In the present study moderate concentration of Diasulin® 30/70 used for topical application was found to improve the economic traits of silkworm, B. mori and can be used in sericulture for yield improvement.
