EFFICACY OF CHEMICAL FUNGICIDES AND COW URINE ON SEED GERMINATION AND SEED ASSOCIATED FUNGI OF TWO WHEAT VARIETIES IN BANGLADESH

Abstract

The present experiment was conducted to determine the effect of three fungicides (Cupravit, Ridomil and Dithane M-45) and cow-urine on seed germination and seed associated fungi of two wheat varieties viz. Sourav and BARI-Gom-26. Fusarium sp., Bipolaris sorokiniana, Aspergillus spp., Trichoderma viride, Penicillium sp. and Rhizopus sp. were detected as associated fungi of tested wheat seeds. The fungicides and cow-urine which used in the experiment, were remarkably increased the germination rate and reduced the incidence of fungal disease over control (untreated). The hundred percent seed germination was found at 2500 ppm of Ridomil where control was noted 61.33% in Sourov variety and it increased 38.67%. Cow-urine also increased germination 36.99% at 75% concentration in Soureve variety. At 2000 and 2500 ppm of Cupravit, Ridomil and Dithane M-45 showed promising results to eliminate all detected fungi in both wheat varieties. The study also revealed that among three fungicides Ridomil showed best results in reducing the seed borne and associated fungal infections. Besides, 60% and 75% cow urine solutions also successfully controlled the associated fungi of Sourov and BARI-Gom-26 seeds.
