AbstractZingiber officinale has previously been reported to possess a range of medicinal activities and widely used spice material throughout the world especially in Asian countries. So, there is a principle need to improvement its quality and assessment its rapid and effective regeneration technique. The present study was undertaken for in vitro shoot formation, shoot multiplication, root induction and establishment of complete plantlets from leaf base and axillary bud using full strength MS media supplemented with NAA, IAA, IBA, 2, 4-D, BAP and KN either alone or in combination with each other. Among the all tested growth regulator formulations 8.0 mg/l BA in combination with 0.2 mg/l 2, 4-D proved best (95%) for multiple shoot proliferation from leaf base explant. NAA 5.0mg/l was the best formulation for successful culture establishment as well multiple shoot proliferation from auxiliary bud explant (90%). MS medium supplemented with 4.0 mg/l NAA proved to be the best for root induction from excised shoots. So, for in vitro regeneration, ginger plants may be used as a potential source for commercial uses and also cultivation to rural areas farmer.
