ESTIMATION OF MAXIMUM EDIBLE PORTION, DETECTION OF HEAVY METALS AND BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF PILA GLOBOSA (LAMARCK, 1819) AND LAMELLIDENS MARGINALIS (LAMARCK, 1819)

Abstract

Two freshwater shell fishes (Pila and Lamellidens) were used to measured edible portion, detection of heavy metals and analysis the biochemical composition. The Pila and Lamellidens collected from ponds and canals behind the 3rd Science building, Rajshahi University Campus. Total edible portion of Lamellidens and Pila are 39.05% and 38.76%. Detection of heavy metals (Br, Hg, Cr, As, Pb, Cd) in Lab by EDXRF (Energy dispersive X-ray Fluorescence). From this test it was found that Pila and Lamellidens contain 7.9 and 8 ppm Br, 2.6 and 5.8 ppm Cr, 2.9and 2.4 ppm Pb respectively. From the biochemical test it was also found that Pila and Lamellidens contain 41.43% and 33.65% protein, 15.42% and 19.98% Fat, 83.69% and 80.12% moisture, 18.85% and 9.11%Ash. 303.13 and 1234.71 mg phosphorous respectively. In our country the environment are Favorable for proper growth and development of those species. So, Pila and Lamellidens as human food can also supplement the protein requirement of the peoples.
