Abstract

The Petroleum ether (Pet. ether), CHCl3 and CH3OH extracts of Carica papaya L. leaf, stem and root have been subjected to dose mortality against Triboliumcastaneum(Hbst.)and lethality against ArtemiasalinaL. nauplii. Against T. castaneumthe leaf extract of Pet. ether showed LD50 values 1.202, 0.956, 0.891, 0.751 and 0.559 mg/cm2 and of CH3OH3.640, 1.562, 0.861, 0.607 and 0.419 mg/cm2bothafter 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h of exposure. The stem extract of Pet. ether showed 1.636, 1.279, 0.980, 0.856 and 0.725 mg/cm2after 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h; of CHCl3 4.745, 3.719, 2.759 and 2.053 mg/cm2after 12, 24, 36 and 48 h and of CH3OH 2.026, 0.945, 0.573, 0.343 and 0.274 mg/cm2after 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h of exposure. The root extract of Pet. ether  showed 2.336, 1.422, 0.853, 0.634 and 0.532 mg/cm2; and of CH3OH 0.878, 0.414, 0.188, 0.129 and 0.114 mg/cm2bothafter 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h of exposure respectively.Against A. salinanauplii the extract of leaf Pet. ether showed LC50 values 4180.528, 1032.428, 363.954 and 102.701 ppm after 6, 12, 18 and 24 h; of CHCl3 extract 372.025, 98.248 and 1.326 ppm and of CH3OH 2665.860, 467.792 and 183.443 ppm both after 12, 18 and 24 h of exposure. The stem extract of Pet. ether showed LC50 values 3173.579, 115.180, 44.033 and 17.230 ppm; of CHCl3 129.233, 76.026, 37.335 and 14.689 ppm and of CH3OH 72.337, 45.542, 31.059 and 29.593 ppm all after 6, 12, 18 and 24 h of exposure. The root extract of Pet. ether showed LC50values 472.90, 187.898, 78.891 and 52.268 ppm after 6, 12, 18 and 24 h; of CHCl3 257.124, 156.739 and 40.072 ppm after 12, 18 and 24 h and of CH3OH 33.176, 22.699, 20.559 and 14.402 ppm after 6, 12, 18 and 24 h of exposure respectively.
