AbstractThe main objective of the current study was to examine internet addiction and mental health as related to sex and socio-economic condition of undergraduate students. A total of 314 students were randomly derived from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. An adapted Bangla version of internet addiction test and general health questionnaire were administered to measure internet addiction and mental health. The data were analyzed by using t test, one way ANOVA, post-hoc tukey test and correlation coefficient test. The results revealed that male students were significantly (t = 2.708, p < 0.01) more internet addicted than female students. The findings also stated that female students were significantly (t = 6.793, p < 0.01) more suffered from mental illness than male students. Beside these the results showed that higher socio-economic class students were significantly more internet addicted than middle and lower socio-economic class students. Finally, the evidence expressed that lower socio-economic class students were significantly more suffered from mental illness than middle and higher socio-economic class students.
