PRESENT STATUS, MANAGEMENT COST AND COST-PROFIT ANALYSIS OF ELEVEN HATCHERIES AT RAJSHAHI DISTRICT IN BANGLADESH

Abstract

This study was conducted on the 11 hatcheries of Rajshahi district from April to December 2016 to know about the present status, better management and cost profit analysis. Among this hatcheries 18.18% (only public sector) hatchery managers are recruited from B.C.S. qualified person, 27.27% owners had primary education, 18.18% had S.S.C. and 9.09% had H.S.C., 27.27% had graduation level respectively. Out of 11 hatcheries 18.18% had funded from government budget. Their average number of nursery pond, rearing pond and stocking pond were 1.81 ± 2.40, 0.27 ± 0.04 and 3.72 ± 1.55. The production capacity of surveyed 11 hatcheries ranged from 150kg to 1600 kg with an average of 395.45 ± 416.80 kg. Total cost ranged from 80000 to 125000 taka with an average of taka 195000 ± 300915.3 price of fry of native species ranged from 1000 tk/kg to 3500 tk/kg and exotic ranged from 100 tk/kg to 3800 tk/kg. Total cost of hormone injection PG (pituitary gland) varied from tk 10000 to 30000 with an average of tk 18245.45 ± 7238.81 per year. Cost of lime and fertilizer varied from tk 15.000 – 45.000 with an average of tk 24545.45 ± 7891.30 per year. Cost of supplementary feed varied from tk 20000 to 100000 with an average of tk 35000 ± 27658.63 per year. The average stocking density of rui, catla, mrigal, silver carp, Grass carp, bighead, Mirror carp, Bata, Calbaus and Punti were 17.09 ± 7.13%, 12.90 ± 3.53%, 11.90 ± 2.46%, 17.45 ± 6.36%, 10.18 ± 5.52%, 5.18 ± 1.94%, 6 ± 1.54%, 4.72 ±2.52%, 5.36 ± 2.57%, and 9.18 ± 3.60%. The rate of 1st dose and 2nd dose injection varied 3 to 12 hours for different species by 6 ml hypodermic syringe and 24 no needle. The incubation period and hatching rate in different fish species varied from 12 to 72 hours and 61.36 ± 5.83% (minimum) respectively. The total cost of hatcheries 501981.8 ± 508339.8 per year.
