Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of residence, marital status and living arrangement on mental health of geriatric people. Three hundred and thirty geriatric people (165 men and 165 women) were selected by using purposive sampling technique from Rajshahi and Gazipur districts of Bangladesh. Bangla version (Ilyas and Ayesha, 2002) of Goldberg (1978) General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) was used to measure mental health of the respondents. Obtained data were analyzed by employing t-test and one way ANOVA. Results indicated that mental health of geriatric people differs significantly in respect of residence, marital status and living arrangement. The findings of this study revealed that residence, marital status and living arrangement play an important role for the mental health well-being of geriatric people.
