Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship of subjective well-being of the respondents with their religious values. Religious values of 400 randomly selected students of Rajshahi University were measured by an adapted Bengali version (Latif 1991) of Allport- Vernon-Lindzey Study of Values. Subjective well-being of the same respondents were measured by a Bangla version of (Akter 2003) MUNSH scale originally developed by Kozma and Stones (1980). The hypothesis of this study was religious value is directly related to subjective well-being. In order to analyze the effect of religious values on subjective well-being, subjects were classified into high, average and low groups on the basis of their scores on religious value sub-scale and comparisons were made among the three groups employing ANOVA and t-test. The results through one- way ANOVA (F = 5.750, p=.05) and t- test (t=-3.237, p=.001 & t=-2.924, p=.05) suggested that there was a direct relationship of subjective well- being with religious values. Thus, the results confirm the hypothesis of the study.
