AbstractThe name of the present research was, the influence of different genres of movies on appetite. The main concern of this study was that, certain types of movies stimulate or suppress the food appetite andspecific movie category can directly trigger food consumption like increase or decrease. For this purpose, 94 adult subjects (43 males and 51 females) were selected in the present study. Subjects were divided into three different groups. One group was watching comedy movie (32 participants), another was watching horror movie (32 participants) and the third group was the comparison group watching documentary (30 participants). Participants current level of hunger was measured by using rating card. Between-group research design was used in the present study. Before conducting the experiment, subjects were completed the rating of current level of hunger. Participants were watching approximately 20 minutes of a funny movie or horror movie or documentary. After finished those movies experimenter asked the subjects to repeat the current feelings for their hunger condition. Before watching the comedy movie, the mean score of the current level of hunger was 4.13 for male and 4.82 for female subjects. After watching movie, the current level of hunger was 5.82 for male and 6.32 for female participants. That means funny movie has an increasing effect on current hunger level. Results also indicated that, female participants hunger level was more increasing than male while they were both watching funny things. The mean score of current hunger level for watching the horror movie for the male participants was 4.89 and the female participants was 5.12. On the other hand, after watching movie, the current hunger level mean score was 3.74 for male and 3.17 for female. Findings indicated that horror movie has a decreasing effect on current hunger level and female hunger level was more decreasing than male. Before watching the documentary, the mean score of the current level of hunger was 4.46 for male and 5.0 for female. After watching documentary, the current level of hunger was 4.64 for men and 5.15 for women. Documentary has no significant changing effect on hunger level according to gender. Finally results of this study was shown that, different types of movie can vary to eat. That means mood can control our food intake.
